Overview:
Butterfly House Internship, Summer 2020 (unpaid; multiple positions available)
Application Deadline: April 15, 2020
Responsibilities include:
- -Caretaking of adult butterflies in Butterfly House, plus other insects, reptiles and amphibians in an indoor exhibit
- -Monitoring butterfly house for eggs and caterpillars, maintaining host and nectar plants, and providing fresh food sources
- -Providing interpretive information for the public in the Butterfly House
- -Assisting with raising butterflies from eggs to adults, including growing appropriate plants, maintaining a clean environment, and checking for overall health
- -Collecting and recording data on butterflies throughout their life cycle
- -Communicating regularly with staff and other interns
Qualifications:
- -Major in environmental studies, biology, zoology, entomology, or related field
- -Interest in insects and environmental education
- -Some education or outreach experience is preferred
- -Ideal candidate is organized, reliable, and self-motivated
- Time Requirements:
- -Intern is expected to be available at least 6 hours per week
