Overview:
Muddy Sneakers is an environmental education non-profit focused on connecting 5th grade public school students to their science curriculum through repeat learning experiences in an outdoors classroom setting.
In a WNC Assistant Program Director, Muddy Sneakers is looking for an individual who embraces the organization’s mission and possesses the skills necessary to advance our unique education model. The Assistant Program Director specifically plays a critical role in supporting the work of the WNC Program Director as they strive to lead, challenge and inspire a talented and experienced staff of field instructors. This position is in part administrative (60%) including being a mentor to other field instructors; assisting with staff training and professional development; assisting with program needs and logistical coordination; updating and revising curriculum, sharing in the leadership and coordination of satellite programming, as well as assuming other administrative duties as needed. The remainder of the time allocation for this position (40%) is directed towards providing exceptional field instruction as a Lead Instructor to multiple schools, assisting in maintaining high quality program delivery/field safety, and serving as a liaison between the field and administrative staff.

Core Responsibilities
1. Education/Program Delivery:
a. The WNC Assistant Program Director is responsible for serving as a Lead Instructor in facilitating school year programming associated with the WNC Field Office.
b. Assist in reviewing field instructor performance to include mentoring/shadowing/training new staff to become well versed in the organization and program curriculum.
c. Assist the WNC Program Director in overseeing the quality of program delivery by fellow instructors.
d. Help to ensure exemplary field safety.
e. Support Satellite Programming by coordinating trip logistics, teaching in satellite region periodically, and assisting in the development of satellite land partnerships.
f. Provide support to summer camp programming as needed.
2. Resupply/Vehicle Logistics/Program Supplies:
a. Assist in keeping the vehicles prepared for field use (cleaned, fueled, supplied, etc.) including communicating/coordinating with WNC Program Director regarding resupply needs.
b. Ensure vehicle logistics are coordinated each week and proper vehicle logs are kept.
c. Organize and distribute supplies/field instructor kits to vehicles and/or staff as needed.
3. Outreach/Development/Community Relations:
a. Assist in identifying/pursuing potential funding opportunities including working with the WNC Program Director on initiatives and periodically collaborate with Development Officer, Communications Coordinator and/or Executive Director.
b. Serve as a public face and spokesperson when necessary for the organization.
c. Help to build and maintain close relationships with school partners.
d. Assist with development/outreach events as necessary including staffing special events/booths throughout the year.
e. Collaborate with staff to produce the bi-annual Muddy Sneakers’ newsletter and other print materials as needed
4. Staff and Board Meetings/Trainings:
a. Assist WNC Program Director in planning, implementing, and facilitating periodic meetings and trainings for field staff.
b. Attend all admin meetings, trainings and retreats; Periodically attend Board of Director meetings as requested
5. Curriculum Review and Data Collection
a. Collaborate with Program Directors and assigned staff on any necessary curriculum changes or revisions.
b. Assist as necessary with staff and research partners (ex: NCSU) on research collaborations to include student measurements, collecting qualitative feedback from teachers, parents, and students, etc.
c. Assist in the annual collection of school EOG and demographic data
The WNC Assistant Program Director is a full-time, 12-month position that reports directly to the WNC Program Director.

Benefits & Compensation:
· Salary range of $27,000 - $30,000, commensurate with experience, with an additional 10% health insurance stipend
· Three weeks of PTO (paid time off) and 10 paid office holidays
