Overview:
A Thousand Mornings Forest School is play-based, child-led program that offers morning hours (8:30 am-12:30 pm) to a mixed-age group of preschoolers and pre-Kindergarteners. We meet at varying locations throughout Santa Barbara and believe deeply in the value of allowing children unstructured time in nature not as an accessory to traditional education but as the very vehicle for developing capable, independent, and self-assured young people with a deep love for their world.
Candidates must love children and the outdoors, have a strong sense of leadership and professionalism, and be willing to collaborate both as a co-educator and as a partner with parents in children's growth. Organization, reliability, flexibility, and a true love of nature are essential to the role.
Other valuable assets:
- A background in Environmental Education
- A background in Early Childhood Education
- Familiarity with positive discipline practice
- Experience with Emergent Curriculum
- Strong written and verbal skills
- Ability to identify local natural hazards such as poison oak, snakes, wasps, etc.
We are looking to hire a teacher for the 2021-2022 school year for a M-F schedule. The position begins late August and runs through the end of May. Approximate weekly time commitment will be 25 hours. All teachers must submit to a background screening/ fingerprinting, keep current Infant/ Child CPR and First Aid certifications, and have a recent negative TB test.
