Overview:

Yosemite Child Care Center (non-profit daycare) is seeking an enthusiastic candidate passionate about early childhood education, loves teaching young children, and has administrative experience. Living and working in Yosemite National Park is not experience to pass up! 

Title: Assistant Director                     

Non-Exempt/Full Time

Reports to: Executive Director             

Starting Wage Range: $22.50/ hour with administrative qualifications

Duty: El Portal and Yosemite Valley

Position Summary

The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting in the management of the teaching staff, classrooms and facilities, and general administrative operations of YNPCCC. The assistant director provides administrative support while also being available to provide direct services (help on the floor) at either center on a daily basis. They model superb teaching practices, oversee the implementation of curriculum and lesson plans, ensure procedures and cleaning practices are followed, and supervise the organization and care of each center.
 

Responsibilities:  

  • Work on the floor in a regularly scheduled capacity and as needed to maintain adequate staffing
  • Assist the director with their role and responsibilities as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and order items as needed within the budgetary restrictions.
  • Assist with time keeping, payroll, and billing to provide a check and balance and assist as needed.
  • Provide support during emergency situations such as rockfall or other natural disasters, make operating decisions when the director is unavailable, help with arrangements when teachers call out sick, and communicate with families during evolving situations.
  • Provide oversight and direction to lead teachers planning, field trip coordination, and community connections.
  • Provide on the job training and feedback to teachers in a formal and informal capacity.
  • Support the board with fundraising efforts as needed. 
  • Assist the director in providing bi-annual reviews of staff.
  • Model best practices and superb teaching skills while working with children and families.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Passion for early childhood education, working with young children, and operations management.
  • Experience working with young children and infants in a professional setting..
  • Experience creating and implementing daily activities, crafts, and lessons for young children.
  • Ability to select and complete tasks with very little supervision or direction.
  • Ability to make sound decisions, communicate effectively, and provide leadership for the organization.
  • All YNPCCC employees are required to complete a federal background check and TB test as well as a mandated reporter training within 30 days of hire.
  • Willingness to complete training and coursework to become a title 22 complaint administrator.
  • Ability to live in a unique and remote community 

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in early education or a related field.
  • Experience supervising, training, and mentoring teachers.
  • Experience organizing fundraising events.
  • Experience using payroll software, google suite includings docs and sheets, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Administrative experience including payroll, hiring, budget management, and billing.
  • California ECE Administrator permit.
  • EMSA infant and child CPR and first aid certification.

 

Working Conditions: 

  • This position includes caring for and teaching children from the ages of four months through twelve years of age.
  • This position requires the ability to lift children up to about 40 lbs. and lift them to at least waist with ease and push and/or pull up to 50 lbs.  
  •  The duties of this position include lifting, feeding, diapering, changing children’s clothing, facility cleaning and laundry, and activities that include art and other messy projects, pushing a quad stroller and other tasks to meet the needs of the children. 
  • Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there are additional procedures in place to protect staff and families.
  • This position may require teachers to be on their feet for 8+ hours per day up to five days per week.
  • This position requires employees to frequently sit, stand, bend, walk,  and lift
  • Work will be done indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions

Compensation Information:

YNPCCC employees receive seven paid holidays and accrue vacation pay after 90 days. They acrue sick pay immediately. Employees are eligible for industry discounts and may receive free or discounted child care for one child. 

The starting rate for this position is $22.50/ hour. 

The employee is responsible for securing their own housing at this time.
