Overview:
The Caretaker performs day-to-day maintenance of a 60-acre facility. With the assistance of Arboretum staff and volunteers, the Caretaker is responsible for groundskeeping, gardening, trail and road maintenance, custodial service, facility repairs, and equipment maintenance. The Caretaker will assist with the implementation of our strategic and master plans, particularly in the areas of natural resources management, conservation, and sustainability.
The University of Alabama Arboretum is a scientific institution that engages in teaching, research, and service with a primary emphasis on the ecology and biodiversity of Alabama. The Arboretum maintains plant collections for botanical education and appreciation and features walking trails through native woodlands; wildflower, experimental, and children’s gardens; and a collection of ornamental plants on the grounds and in greenhouses. The Arboretum’s programs promote the management, conservation, and sustainable use of natural resources and appreciation of nature through recreational activities and artistic endeavors.
