The AKA Science program provides free science kits to more than 50 eligible Portland schools year-round. Kits include field-tested curriculum, class leader training, and all the supplies needed to bring the curriculum to life. The AKA Science curriculum rotates on a 3-year cycle, with topics that include biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, earth science, and forensic science.
JOB SUMMARY: The AKA Science Program Coordinator works with the Program Supervisor to prepare hands-on after school science classes that engage diverse elementary school students. The Coordinator position is primarily a back-end organizational role, and requires a detail-oriented self-starter who is comfortable juggling a variety of tasks independently such as supply ordering, inventory management, curriculum development, and activity testing. The position also involves periodic, highly interactive phases of coordinating volunteers and training instructors, and requires someone who can connect successfully with many different groups of people.
