Program Overview and Job Summary:
The Adventure Programs and Safety Manager is responsible for the implementation of all adventure based programs including staff, administrative and financial management. This includes Keystone Mountain Adventure and Keystone Voyager programs, all school year backpacking, group camping, or offsite residential programs. These programs promote learning through adventure centered experiences. The Adventure Programs and Safety Manager is responsible to manage all staff, design programs, and complete any necessary logistics for any group offsite camping, backpacking, or residential program along with the direct management and implementation of Keystone Voyager and Keystone Mountain Adventure summer programs.
The Adventure Programs and Safety Manager is also responsible for developing, upholding, and training of all risk management practices for all departments and programs of Keystone Science School utilizing a collaborative approach with all staff members of KSS. This includes the adherence of all policies and procedures of the KSS Risk Management Plan, Colorado State Child Care Licensure Rules and Regulations, American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation standards, and guidelines within the Pinnacol Safety Program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The main areas of focus for this position are:
- 50% Administration and Training
- 30% Program Logistics and Facilitation
- 10% Staff Management
- 10% Financial Management
Administration and Training
- Partner with the Director of Education in the management and development of new adventure program options;
- Coordinate with the Marketing and Strategic Partnerships Director and the Marketing department to support program marketing efforts;
- Serve as the chair of the safety committee;
- Update the risk management plan on an annual basis with support from the KSS Safety Committee and the KSS Vision Team;
- Manage aspects related to facilities and operations of Colorado State Child Care Licensure for all licensed programs;
- Manage all aspects of ACA Accreditation for all accredited camp programs;
- Manage the implementation of the Pinnacol Safety Program in collaboration with Human Resources;
- Develop and facilitate risk management trainings required under ACA, Colorado State Child Care Licensure, KSS Risk management and Safety Program as part of program training sessions and monthly trainings with all year-round staff;
- Conduct certification trainings for staff such as basic first aid and CPR, standard precautions, and other trainings.
- Evaluate and assesses proper risk management practices and protocols for all programs and departments of Keystone Science School.
Program Logistics and Facilitation
- Manage program logistics, complete permit applications, report and obtain industry risk management accreditations;
- Oversee the implementation of all Adventure Programs;
- Support customer experience team on an as needed basis;
- Teach and facilitate programs on an as needed basis;
- Serves as the point of contact between KSS Medical Director and Keystone Science School;
- Abide by and uphold the policies and procedures set forth by KSS.
Staff Management
- Provide direct supervision and management to summer adventure instructors which includes all hiring, training, and coaching;
- Partner with Program Managers and Program Coordinators to schedule, train, and evaluate all program instructors assigned Adventure Programs;
- Partner with other staff of the management team to serve as the emergency contact during any school, retreat, and facility rental;
- Conduct staff Training on all risk management practices and procedures relevant to KSS.
Financial Management
- Accountable for the creation and management of expense budgets for all programs under the responsibility of this position;
- Forecast and report on all expenses associated with the implementation of programs under the responsibility of this position;

Our required education, experience, and certifications:
- Bachelor's degree;
- 1-2 years of knowledge and experience within industry risk management;
- 1-2 years’ experience writing and upholding risk management policies for an outdoor education program;
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience leading adventure based programs in the backcountry;
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience developing, leading and training staff;
- Ability to clearly communicate the purpose and practices of CO State Licensure, ACA and risk management to all staff;
- Current Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and CPR certifications or above, from an approved vendor, or the ability to obtain within the first 90 days of employment;
- Current CPR and Standard Precautions trainer or the ability to obtain within the first 90 days of employment;
- Age 21+ with a minimum of 5 years driving experience, excellent driving record, and a valid driver's license;
- Must be able to successfully pass a comprehensive background check.
In addition to the above required talents, our ideal candidate will have these preferred skillsets:
- Desired computer skills include proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.);
- Comprehension of the Spanish language via written and/or verbal form.
Travel Expectations:
Limited travel throughout the state of Colorado and Utah.
