Opportunity:
 
The Education Department seeks a friendly team member to work within the academic education programs at the Holden Arboretum. The Academic Programs Educator will support the education department in coordinating, scheduling, training, ordering, and prepping for programs. This position will instruct programs as needed and assist in developing new programs and activities. This position will assist in training school guide volunteers and subcontract staff and collaborates with other departments as needed. We seek a creative individual who is passionate about the outdoors, friendly, flexible, and enjoys sharing information with the public.
 
Position Details:

  • Full-time, non-exempt position
  • Schedule primarily Monday – Friday with occasional weekends and evenings
  • Training provided
  • Reports to the Education Manager at The Holden Arboretum

Key responsibilities of the Academic Programs Educator employee include but are not limited to:

  • Assists with coordinating academic education programs
  • Assists in the ordering, preparation, and maintenance of program materials
  • Teaches Holden Arboretum educational programs as needed
  • Assists in training school guide volunteers and paid subcontract staff
  • Assists with the development of new programs and activities
  • Contributes positively to a team of Education and Guest Services professionals
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A Bachelor's degree in education or related science field, preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an educational setting, preferred
  • Demonstrate a passion for people and nature
  • Ability to understand basic instructions is required. Bilingual individuals are highly desired.
  • Highly proficient with the use of Microsoft 365 products, specifically Teams, Outlook email, and calendar
  • Highly skilled in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and the ability to produce and use data tables and charts
  • Effective and appropriate verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work within a team and be self-motivating when working independently
  • Ability to take the initiative and problem-solve
  • Detail-oriented; strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, adapt to shifting priorities, and work on a team
  • Understanding of non-profit organizations and the importance of handling confidential information
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Criminal background check pass required

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Stand and sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to hike up to 3-5 miles in variable terrain
  • Perform tasks in all weather conditions; temperatures may range from 15-100°F
  • Working primarily outdoors where temperature extremes exist
  • Effective vision and hearing
  • Hand and arm dexterity
  • Walk and work on wet, uneven, slippery, or rocky terrain
  • Kneel, bend, stoop, grab, and reach
  • Regular lifting and carrying of up to 20 pounds, occasional 40 pounds
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs
