1st Annual Connecticut Climate Change Youth Summit

Opportunity

Date and Time:

Thursday, March 18, 2021, 10:00am to Friday, March 19, 2021, 2:00pm

Registration Deadline:

Friday, March 12, 2021, 12:00pm

Organization:

Students will participate in sessions that develop an action project for their school or community. You will meet community and youth group leaders from across Connecticut. You can work as part of a team from your school or as an individual from your school. However, schools are limited to maximum of ten students. A student packet is provided on the website to help you prepare for the summit. You may download it and use during the summit. The packet includes sheets for taking notes on the breakout sessions, recording your ideas and questions that apply to you and your idea. Your notes will help design a plan of action or an idea for engaging others and sharing climate change knowledge. Prior to the summit, you/your team will discuss with an adult leader or teacher what you would like to do–at school and/or in the community–that will allow improvement toward a lower carbon future.

You will need to register to attend the summit and identify the breakout sessions you wish to attend during the designated blocks of time. Check the summit schedule on the website for session selections. While at the summit, you will attend your selected sessions that provide background on areas of interest, ways to communicate with others, and methods of civic engagement. You will be able toask questions and share ideas with fellow students. The final session will focus on you and developing a plan to implement with others. If students wish to participate as individuals, we welcome your involvement. Individuals and teams of students need to contact a teacher to serve as your point of contact and to coordinate efforts in the school. Your teacher or parent will serve as contact to verify permission to attend the summit, so their email and phone contact must be included on registration forms. If you have questions, please contact us to discuss your needs.

  • Registration deadline is March 12, 2021.
  • Participation is free.
