Overview:
The Educator I at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center is responsible for K-12 curriculum programing, provides instruction for school groups and the public serving a broad range of audiences. The successful candidate will teach through hands-on inquiry methods that encourage exploration and stewardship of sea turtles and the natural environment. Responsibilities include K-12 curriculum development and program assessment/analysis. The position includes weekend and holiday coverage, and supervision of volunteers.
Lead Duties:
- Develops and edits interactive, research-based curriculum for school-aged visitors and groups using performance measures, cross-cutting concepts, and imbedded evaluation
- Regularly assesses curriculum and visitor learning for improvements and updates to associated educational standards and current research findings
- Facilitates K-12 fieldtrip group check-in, transitions, classroom teaching, and overall group experience ensuring Gift Shop or other island partners are always in clear communication
- Builds and disseminates teacher resource publications such as newsletters
- Coordinates literacy initiatives such as the Scute Approved Reading Program
- Develops and oversees opportunities for youth involvement in GSTC initiatives such as career focused field trips and citizen science initiatives
- Assists in the management of public programming and general admission traffic; coordinates staff, AmeriCorps members, volunteer docents, and reservations, ensuring a quality guest experience.
