Overview:
Under direction of the CSFS Communications Manager, this position is responsible for two primary programs: Project Learning Tree and conservation education. The incumbent provides formal and non-formal educators with the national Project Learning Tree (PLT) curriculum and other forest education to bring the environment into their classrooms, and their students out in the environment. This position coordinates the recruiting, training, stewardship and scheduling of workshops for Colorado’s PLT facilitators. The position provides education and information to formal and non-formal educators, and school district and state education administrators through frequent public speaking, written and verbal communication methods. Additionally, the
position provides conservation education expertise and support for the agency, landowners and cooperators as well as a diverse range of external partners including county, state and federal agencies; fire departments; nongovernmental organizations; and other key stakeholders. The incumbent will use, and/or develop in cooperation with researchers, current social science on the best methods to facilitate awareness and learning of the natural environment and the role of active management in creating resilient forests and healthy watersheds. This position serves as a link between the CSFS State Office and agency areas/field offices for a broad range of outreach activities. The individual will also serve as backup to the Communications Manager in responding to media inquiries and facilitating interviews and exchange of public information. The position may also assist in
writing content and in the development and design of CSFS publications and other documents.
Required Job Qualifications:
- BA or BS in education, biology, ecology, forestry, environmental education, natural resources, communications or non-profit management, or a related field.
- Experience with program development, project management and evaluation.
- Strong desire for goal and results-oriented achievement, with demonstrated accountability and reporting of key metrics.
- Successful applicants must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
