Overview:
We are currently seeking a full-time Community Engagement Supervisor, reporting to the Director of Education. The position advances our mission and goals by leading our community youth and adult programming, which includes: the newly announced Project Dragonfly -Advanced Inquiry Program master’s degree program (AIP) and our award-winning youth Wildlife Immersion and Leadership Development (WILD) program. This position serves as a liaison with external and internal partners for these programs and may include the establishment of new programming aimed at increased adult engagement with Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens. The position will extend the zoo’s reach and recognition into local, regional and national conservation education communities.
Applicants must be available to work outside of regular work schedule, including evenings, weekends or holidays, as needed. In addition, must have the ability to work independently, exercising independent judgment and discretion. The typical work week is Tuesday through Saturday (able to work flexible hours as necessary to meet deadlines).
The ideal candidate will have a college degree in life sciences or science education. A minimum of five years’ experience in a zoo or environmental education setting, where they designed and implemented formative and summative assessment, evaluated program outcomes with emphasis on measuring behavioral and long-term outcomes. In addition, must possess excellent communication skills, flexibility, creativity, and the ability to interact positively with a variety of personalities. Teaching/training experience a plus. Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 to include Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook. Must be able to pass Level 2 background check.
Candidates must have the ability to stand for long periods of time, traverse zoo grounds on foot, work in adverse weather conditions, be able to bend and lift, sweep, mop, stoop and be able to lift 50 pounds without difficulty for short distances. You must also possess a valid driver’s license.
