Overview:
Description of Duties:
- Attend mandatory day-long camp staff training May 4, 2019
- Assist with pre-season paperwork checks and preparation of weekly camper reports.
- Assist with inventorying, preparing, and organizing camp materials and activity supplies
- Answer phone lines with professionalism and courtesy answering a broad spectrum of visitor questions and following up on camp related paperwork.
- Lead daily check-in/check-out of campers with approved adults.
- Implement and monitor routine water and bathroom breaks
- Model appropriate behavior and assist in the enforcement of camper health and safety expectations
- Pick-up and deliver camp lunches
- Operate a 24-person tram to transport campers to and from field trips throughout the island
- Comply with required camp ratios (1:6 counselor/camper)
- Supervise campers daily including during field trips and at the water park
- Be knowledgeable of any special camper needs, including health and behavioral
- Provide analysis and prepare reports as directed by the Education Program Manager
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Education Program Manager

Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma (additional college coursework preferred)
- Must successfully complete background check
- Minimum of two years teaching, child care experience, and/or camp counselor experience
- CPR and First Aid certification required, selected applicants without a current CPR and First Aid certification will be required to successfully complete this certification within 30 days either on own or through on-site class.
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be confident in supervising children outdoors and in amusement park-like settings
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, participants, parents and caregivers
- Ability to communicate effectively and in a timely fashion with participants, families and caregivers, both verbally and in written form
- Ability to solve practical problems in a variety of situations
- Ability to interpret and understand instructions, both written and oral
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- More than 50% of the typical work day may be spent walking, sitting, standing and using repetitive motions of the wrists, hands or fingers.
- Between 25% and 50% of the typical work day may be spent climbing stairs, pushing and pulling.
- Less than 25% of the typical day is spent balancing, stooping and/or crouching, kneeling, reaching.
- Sensory abilities required include vision, touching and feeling with more than 50% of the day spent communicating including talking and hearing.
- Must have visual clarity for both close range work such as computer use and reading and distance such as operating motor vehicles and determining the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
- Work may be conducted within an inside classroom setting, but the majority will be outside with exposure to extreme heat, high humidity, flying/biting insects and occasionally adverse weather conditions.
- Will be exposed to hazards such as moving mechanical parts and moving vehicles.
- May be subject to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, oils, odors, dusts, mists, or poor ventilation.
- Noise levels are generally considered normal.
- This position provides on-the-job training.
