As some of you may know, there has been a growing movement to recognize the original inhabitants of the land Columbus "discovered", by celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day on what historically has been celebrated as Columbus Day. As we reflect up our country's history, are there resources you use with your students to broach this topic? Please share!
One of my favorites is "A People's Curriculum for the Earth," a Rethinking Schools publication, that focuses on the social impacts of the environmental crises we face. Students learn about indigenous rights and cultures through role play activities that foster empathy and showcase the importance of including diverse perspectives in collaborative decision-making.
