EL-SPACE TOOLKIT: Strategies for Reclaiming Sites Beneath Elevated Transportation Infrastructure
The El-Space Toolkit features 21 topical case studies from 11 cities across North America that demonstrate approaches to various typologies of el-space, including linear pathways, crossings, and commercial corridors/market spaces. The Toolkit highlights the range of potential of el-space, from enhanced infrastructure to destination parks and trails. The toolkit also covers the lifecycle of developing and implementing el-space projects, highlighting lessons learned for this emerging field from pilot sites in New York city, with exemplary practices and considerations on how to improve el-space conditions.
The El-Space forum and Toolkit are supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and public funds from New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and the New York State Council on the Arts.
