Nature Center Partnerships with Schools

We are trying to create a white page to share with schools about the benefits of partnering with local nature centers (beyond just offering field trips). Does anyone have anything like this? Or formal partnerships with local schools? I'd appreciate hearing what other nature center/school partnerships look like. Thanks!

I teach with the CHESPAX environmental education program with the Calvert County Public School system in Maryland. The program has operated as a 30+ year partnership between the school system and local nature centers, parks, and museums. Please feel free to contact me at hartent@calvertnet.k12.md.us for any specific questions. I'm actually putting together an article on the school system/nature center partnership and would be happy to post a link in April once it is released.

Hi Carrie! I can't wait to read your article! School and informal EE partnerships is a topic I am very interested in as well. Have you read the Environmental Education and Sustainability in U.S. Public Schools survey results? It highlights a few partnerships.

The GettingSmart publication, "What is Place-Based Education and Why Does it Matter?" also provides several examples of partnerships organized by education practice and settings, including international efforts. I've linked a few examples that might interest you below.

I also linked a blog post, "Conservation + Comics - Telling the Story of Science Through Popular Arts," because even though it is a field trip-based program, I thought it was a unique take on science education.

I hope this helps with your article. Please share with us when it's published!
